How to Buy a Used Golf Cart

Friday, January 1st, 2010

In the current economy, used golf carts are a cost saving move for companies who need the ability to haul heavy loads but do not have the reserve cash to buy brand new carts. The standard upgrade time on golf carts for most country clubs is about three or four years. This makes them a perfect source to consider for purchasing a used cart.

Most of the time, carts bought from private country clubs will be sold “as is.” The clubs probably have kept regular maintenance and made sure there is no major damage, but they usually do not clean the carts for you or do any other kind of refurbishing just for the sale.

There are no warranties for as-is carts. You take the risk of having to repair it yourself when you buy it.

To minimize your risks, take the golf cart you are considering buying for a test drive. Find some weight to add to the cart and see how the engine handles moving up a hill. You should also check for rust on any part of the body of the cart and see if there have already been parts replaced.

If you are purchasing a refurbished cart from a golf cart dealer, there will likely have been lots of cleaning and reupholstering done. You can even get a 30- or 60-day warranty and choose different seats, upholstery or paint jobs.

Do not ever make the mistake of settling for the first golf carts that you may find. Shop around to several dealers or private golf clubs to get the cart that fits your needs.

After you purchase your golf cart, maintenance is extremely important. Gas-powered carts require more ongoing maintenance than electric-powered carts. You will have to change spark plugs, air filters and oil regularly. In electric carts, you will need to check the water level in the battery regularly and replace the battery every two years.

A good estimate for used golf carts is about $2,000, compared to the price of a brand new one at about $4,000. Gas golf carts are going to require you to deal with a dealer, since country clubs mostly use electric carts. You should feel safe asking the right questions and comfortable enough to compare prices before you buy.

The Golf Carts Guide was established to help people learn about golf cart.

The Birth of Aikido

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

The term ‘Aikido’ is formed by the combination of three characters in the Japanese language. ‘Ai’, which signifies ‘joining’; ‘ki’, which represents ’spirit’ and ‘do’, which which means ‘way’. These three words in fact actualy do encapsulate the essence of Aikido as a type of martial art: ‘the joining of the spirit to find the way’. It was only in the period from 1930’s to the 1940’s that the name Aikido was officially accepted as the name of this martial art variety.

Aikido uses methods that do not seriously injure or kill not like different types of martial art. The movements and skills being taught are just intended to divert attention or immobilize attackers. This is perhaps the explanation why most people prefer Aikido, because of its concentration on peace and tranquility as opposed to violence and conflict. In deed, Aikido teacher, Morihei Ueshiba, believes that to have power over hostility without causing any injury is the art of peace.

Ueshiba, who is also called Osensei, which signifies ‘Great Teacher’, formed Aikido from the doctrine of Daito-ryu aiki-jujutsu. He incorporated the methods of the ‘yari’, the spear; the ‘juken’, the bayonet; and the ‘jo’, which is a short quarterstaff. But what ultimately distinguishes Aikido from other types of martial art is the fact that its proponents can strike while empty-handed. Proponents require no arms for their protection.

As a small child, he was much into physical fitness and conditioning. This was because of his vow to avenge his father’s attackers. In due course, his studies and activities brought him to the discipline of the various martial arts. He studied many of them. He even has certificates for fencing, fighting with spears, etc. He has learned it all. This is possibly the explanation why Aikido is such a diverse and multi-disciplinary kind of martial art.

Yet in spite of his skill, he was still dissatisfied. He felt that there was still something missing. It was then that he turned to the religions. He studied under a religious leader, Onisaburo Deguchi of the sect called Omoto-kyo in Ayabe. Deguchi taught him to take care of his psychic growth. He then combined his spiritual beliefs and his mastery of the different martial arts and Aikido was formed.

His relationship with this charismatic spiritual leader Deguchi also smoothed the path for his introduction to the elite political and military personnel as a martial artist. Because of this relationship, he was able to found Aikido and even pass on his teachings to students, who have, in turn, created their own methods and movement in Aikido.

Aikido is a blend of the different styles of jujitsu as well as some of the techniques of sword and spear fighting, of which Ueshiba was an expert. To obtain an general picture, Aikido combines the joint locks and throws of jujitsu and the techniques of the body necessary when fighting with swords and spears.

Oriental in origin, it was brought to the West by Minoru Mochizuki when he visited France in 1951. He introduced the Aikido methods to students who were learning judo. In 1952, Tadashi Abe came to France as the official Aikikai Honbu representative. Then in 1953, Kenji Tomiki toured throughout the United States while Koichi Tohei stayed in Hawaii for a full year where he set up a dojo. Aikido then spread its influence in the United Kingdom two years after and in 1965, it reached Germany and Australia. At present, Aikido has centres all over the world.

Do Squats Help You Jump Higher? - Increasing Vertical Leap Easily

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

Do squats help you jump higher, sure they do. But you have to include various exercises along with doing squats. You need to have an overall exercise program of training if you want to jump higher. You might see the professionals on the television making it look easy. But they put in a lot of hard work to get to that level.

You have to have an overall level of excellent physical fitness to be able to jump your highest. This is because if you are tired from the game you will not have the energy to jump your best. And you have to realize that it is not simply your legs that give you the height you need. You need a strong back and strong shoulders and basically a strong body.

Not only your legs help you jump higher. But you need a strong back, strong arms, and strong torso to reach your best jumping height. You have to have a great aerobic plan and a great weight training plan in place. You can take one day and just work on your aerobic training. And the next day work on the weights. This will give your body time in between your aerobic and anaerobic training to rest from each.

You will spend time on the weight machine where you do squats. This is the machine where you can put weights on your shoulders and then bend down. But do not go too far down because you can strain and injure your knees. You can work your legs just fine without bending too far down and putting your knees at risk. Next with the weight on your shoulders you can lift up and down on your tips of your feed.

You fell this in your calf muscles. Then you will at the same time build up your Achilles tendons. This is also a good way to improve your jumping ability. But here is a warning. Check with your doctor before going into any workout routine. You do not want to have any limits on yourself and not know it. And also make certain to warm up before working out. You do not want to hurt yourself.

It is very easy to pull a muscle if you are not properly warmed up. Put a goal in your workout. Measure the distance of your vertical jump each week. This way you can track your progress. You will be able to see what is working and what is not working. Do not get discouraged if you do not see immediate results. Your legs need to get accustomed to your workout regimen.

But once you do see some improvement you will see it on a regular basis. You have to understand like anything else improvement comes from consistent practice. When you see professional ball players jumping high they were not born with that vertical leap. They had to spend a lot of time building up to that level.

This is the drawback to watching the pros who make it look easy. We think that all we have to do is jump and if we cannot jump as high we think that we were not born with the same ability. This is wrong. If you work at it you can be a better jumper and better athlete overall.

Del Mar Racetrack: ‘Where The Surf Meets the Turf’

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

Though it is sometimes overshadowed by more famous tracks back East like Churchill downs and Belmont Park, Del Mar Racetrack in Southern California has a rich and fascinating history. Located 20 miles north of San Diego and known for its iconic slogan “Where The Surf Meets the Turf”, Del Mar has not only hosted the best horses and jockeys on the planet but a ‘who’s who’ of show biz elite.

The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club was founded by a group of well heeled enthusiasts in the mid’30s, and they immediately turned their attention to building a world class horse racing venue. The names that were instrumental in the creation of Del Mar include a whos who of American entertainment–most notably Bing Crosby, Oliver Hardy (of Laurel and Hardy) and Jimmy Durante. At the time the facility opened thoroughbred horse racing was the second most popular sport in America behind major league baseball, and Del Mar quickly gained a reputation for being a player in the industry.

Additionally, the star power involved with the project also provided a trendy cachet that the tonier race courses back East lacked. Bing Crosby himself greeted patrons at the gate on opening day, and during the late’30s and early’40s it became a place to be seen for Hollywood A-listers and those who aspired for celebrity. In addition to known gambling enthusiasts like W.C. Fields, Edgar Bergen and Red Skelton, the Del Mar patrons during that time also included some of the top female stars of the era including Ava Gardner, Paulette Goddard and Dorothy Lamour.

Del Mar was the site of the’38 match race between Seabiscuit and Ligaroti. Seabiscut won the $25,000 winner take all challenge by a nose, and this race set Del Mar betting and attendance records and remains one of the most famous races in history. The racing at Del Mar continued to flourish until the start of WWII, when the track went ‘dark’ for racing. It was used at times by the military for, among other things, a training ground for Marines and later a production facility for bomber parts.

After the war Del Mar didn’t miss a beat, and reopened the day after Japan surrendered to Allied Forces in Tokyo Bay. That day drew over 21,000 fans to the park and set a new wagering record of over $950,000. The track flourished during the post war economic boom years, and improved transportation between the major urban centers in Southern California–along with a new crop of stars including Mickey Rooney, Jimmy Durante and Desi Arnez, Jr.–kept the track in the limelight.

The annual race meet at Del Mar remains a highlight of the summer to this day. Del Mar remains one of the top tracks in the country, and have recently upgraded their facility with a state of the art grandstand and was one of the first tracks to install a new synthetic racing surface.

Minnesota Loses First Game of Season

Monday, December 21st, 2009

Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings are undefeated no more. The Pittsburgh Steelers’ used a couple of big plays from their defense in the fourth quarter to break open a close game and defeat the Vikings by a final score of 27-17. Favre put up decent yardage in the loss, throwing for 334 yards but had no touchdowns and an interception. The defending Superbowl Champion Steelers improved to 5-2, while the Vikings are now 6-1.

NFL pointspread players who backed the Steelers as -6 home favorites were rewarded with the cover. Pittsburgh had only covered one of their first six games heading into the contest, and the win improved their record against the number to 2-5. Minnesota dropped to 4-3 against the spread with the setback. The 44 points scored went UNDER the posted total of 46′. It was only the Vikings’ second UNDER of the season against five OVERS, while the Steelers have gone OVER in four of their seven games.

The Steelers largely shut down Minnesota’s rushing game, holding Adrian Peterson to 69 yards. Pittsburgh safety Ryan Clark underscored his team’s dominance against the run:

“That’s the biggest point of the game. You have the best running back in the world and you don’t give it to him. They’re saying they can’t beat us running, and that’s a major statement when you have the guy they have back there.”

Favre gave a mealy mouthed justification for the loss in his postgame interview:

“There were a lot of what ifs, a lot of reasons we didn’t win. The red zone was one of them. They’re physical, and they were as good as we thought they’d be. … When I came here and looked at our schedule and saw the Steelers game, I went, ‘Oh-h-h.’ ”

Favre has only thrown three interceptions in a Vikings’ uniform, but #3 was a costly one as it was returned by Steelers’ Keyaron Fox for a touchdown to put the game out of reach as Minnesota was driving for a potential game tying field goal. Afterwards, Fox recalled the play:

“Brett tried to force it in there and the running back bobbled it and slipped out of his hands and it fell into my lap. I had just run across the field after Peterson and I was winded, so it felt like it was 100-plus yards.”

The Vikings now face another big game next week as they head to Favre’s old stomping grounds in Green Bay for a battle with the Packers. It’ll be Favre’s first appearance at his old home in an enemy uniform. The Vikings will then have a bye weekend before hosting the lowly Detroit Lions on November 15. Pittsburgh will enjoy a bye week this week before returning to action on Monday, November 9th facing the Denver Broncos on the road.

Zorbing - The New Activity Of Zorbing

Thursday, December 17th, 2009

Want to try something extraordinary? If you want an experience like none other, you have to check out the new recreation of zorbing. In what looks like a giant hamster ball for people called a “zorb”, a rider gets inside to then be rolled down a hill for a thrilling, world spinning time. This activity also may be called globe riding or sphereing.

What is the zorb made out of? It is made out of a flexible and transparent plastic. There are two layers of plastic, and in between the outer and the inner layer of plastic is air, which acts as a shock absorber and makes the ride smoother for the people rolling downhill inside of it. Zorbing usually takes place on a gentle slope, although it also can be done on flat land.

What ages can take part in this? Many ages can do this. To get inside of one, you crawl in through the hole, and then are harnessed in. Prepare to have the world spin, because once the zorb is sent into motion you are at the mercy of the hill until you reach the bottom. You may choose to ride without a harness and have water placed in the ball. This changes the experience completely as you are able to slide and roll down the hill freely inside of the ball.

How many people can ride inside of one of these at a time? Up to three riders can ride inside of a zorb. If there are three riders they have to ride without using harnesses. You can choose to ride with harnesses or without harnesses if there are two or less riders.

Where can you go to try this awesome activity out? You can only zorb at official zorbing locations. Since the company that makes these giant inflatable balls has strict rules for the locations they sell them too, you can only do it at official locations. So far, there is only one location in the US, and that is at Zorb Smoky Mountains in Tennessee. There is also a location in Rotorua, New Zealand.

It may still be a rare experience to get to try zorbing because of the few locations that offer it, but if you ever happen to be in the area of an official zorb location, many people who have tried it recommend you try it at least once.

To see what it is like to roll down a hill in one of these, check out this zorb video and also take a look at all these extreme toys.

Radios Used For Airsoft

Friday, December 11th, 2009

During airsoft games, radios are a great way for commanders and teams to communicate, but which radio should your team choose for the terrain being played on?

Before choosing a radio, it is important to recognize all the requirements such as are you playing in areas with a lot of buildings, indoors, outdoors in open areas or all of the above? Will you use the radio at long ranges (i.e., for command purposes) or within a small unit? What sort of headset will you require? It is important to consider all these questions and more when choosing your radio.

One major factor when determining the radio’s effectiveness is the radio band. Personal radios use 1 of 3 bands with each band designed for different terrains.

Family Radio Service (FRS) or Personal Mobile Radio (PMR) radios are the cheapest radios available. They tend to be compact with small antennas and low powers, and operate on an FM service of– channels. They allow a range of microphones from lapel mics to headsets and do not require a license to use.

Unfortunately, because of their small antennas and low power signals, they have a hard time penetrating buildings and forests, so their range is can be an issue depending on your requirements. For use in airsoft, these personal radios are great to be used within a team but not for command purposes.

Multi User Radio Service (MURS) radios are higher powered alternatives to FRS and PMR radios and use an FM service with five channels. As they can connect to external antennas and their signals are capable of bending over hills, they are a popular choice for hikers and climbers and do not require a license to use.

However, MURS radios are more expensive than their counterparts are and you are unable to use as wide a range of headsets with them. Also, even though they have stronger signals, they are not able to penetrate buildings and dense forests either so they are generally not a good option for airsoft.

General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) radios are the highest performance personal radios, operating on significantly higher powers (up to 50 watts) and up to 16 duplex channels. They can also utilise repeaters and a much better at penetrating dense forests and buildings.

However, this performance does come at a cost. GMRS radios can be very bulky and expensive and licenses are required to use them.

So which should you buy? It’s likely that budget will be a factor, so identify the radios that you can afford and revisit your requirements. If you’re purchasing radios for each member of your team it’s likely that you’ll be on a tight budget, in which case FRS / PMR radios may be the best choice initially. If you are commanding a group of teams, you will likely need a GMRS radio to communicate effectively, so have a shop around.

Of course, the final decision on which radio to choose is up to you. Always be sure to research all options in advance in order to avoid disappointment with your purchase later.

Importance of Wearing Ski or Snowboarding Goggles

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

Wearing goggles is extremely necessary if you are going out for skiing or snowboarding as these equipments provide great protection to your eyes out there on the snow fields. If you do not wear goggles while skiing or snowboarding, you will be exposed to several risks to your eyes including ice particles, debris, twist and snow flying towards your face while sloping down the hill at high speeds. These goggles also protect your eyes from harmful UV sun rays that become stronger when reflected back from the snow.

While buying skiing or snowboarding goggles, you should also give concentration to fogging, more than ever if you are a beginner because at this time, you will fall more and breathe heavier. Goggles with multiple lenses will take care of the fogging issue as they will be kept well vented because fresh air gets circulated between the lenses, thus preventing fogging. There are chemically treated goggles that are also available in the market which are manufactured as anti-fog or else you can purchase anti-fog wipes and sprays from your equipments store.

Branded goggles mostly provide 100% protection from UV rays but they are very costly. If you cannot afford to buy them, you can purchase the ones that provide at least 95% protection.

Other things that you need to keep in mind while purchasing ski or snowboarding goggles are that they should have a fine peripheral vision, they should be comfortable to wear and should snug fit over your facial contours. The straps and inside of your goggles should be padded which will prevent serious injuries in case you land badly. By peripheral vision, we mean that while you are traveling down the slope at high speed, you should be able to recognize the hazards quickly such as rocks, trees, uneven terrain and other people on the snow fields.

If you have to wear prescription glasses, then you can get your customized prescription goggles or purchase a pair that securely fits over your glasses. While deciding about the color of your lenses, you must remember that yellow or clear lenses are suitable for darker skiing or snowboarding conditions; rosy tint is suitable for medium to low light conditions and yellow, amber or gold are suitable for moderate light conditions. Now-a-days, goggles are available that have inter-changeable lenses, allowing you to choose the correct color of your lenses for current skiing or snowboarding conditions.

Although most of the branded ski and snowboarding goggles are fine, they should also work well with the helmet you wear. It is important to choose your goggles wisely so that you can enjoy your sport in a safe manner.

The Easy Way To Buy Skate Shoes

Monday, November 30th, 2009

Many people find it hard to Buy SKATE SHOES because they do not quite know how to use them or anything about them. They are almost like other skate shoes except they are specifically made to keep you on a skate board.

Skate shoes usually have more of a grip than a normal shoe does for the reason of staying on a board. There are skate shoes that have wheels in them that can pop in and out of the shoe which allow you to skate on your heels. I could never use the shoes that you can skate on your heels with but a lot of people do it like they are pros

If you can not find skating shoes at a sporting goods store you should check and ask the clerk if it is possible to get them ordered. If all else fails you can look on-line for them and sometimes there are great deals on them and the site might even offer free shipping.

The reason why they call them skate shoes is because they are specifically designed to keep you on a skate board. However, there are other shoes that have wheels in them and people skate around on these and they are also called skate shoes.

You can find skate shoes in many different colors and you can find them in a lot of different brands. I think they are worth buying if this is something you are into and I think that skate shoes have some nice designs on them sometimes.

No matter where you get your skate shoes make sure you know about what you are buying so that you do not waste your time on something that is just going to fall apart within a year or so. Either way you go just make sure you do not waste a bunch of money on shoes that are not worth it.
