Fascinating initially, although eventually you catch on that it’s heading nowhere at 10 miles an hour. Cast includes Jason Patrie, Rachel Ward, Bruce Dem, George Dickerson, James Yarn, Rough Giordani, and Corey Carrier. (114 minutes, 1990)

Black Hawk Down: Harrowing dramatization of the catastrophic 1993 U.S. mission in Somalia that concluded in the deaths of eighteen American cadets. Characters and partisan structure take a backseat deliberately to the malicious battle scenes, re-made in cruel detail by Scott, cinematographer Slawomir Idziak, and a team of technical magicians.
